Douglas County Housing Partnership was recently featured in The Gazette for our new four-story Rio at the Rock mural. The mural is located on the side of the building at 403 Perry Street and commemorates both Colorado’s 150th anniversary and the United States’ 250th birthday.
The article highlights the work of Colorado Springs-based muralist Michael Beenenga, who created the large-scale artwork. According to The Gazette, the mural includes imagery connected to Castle Rock’s local history, including a warhorse, a locomotive, and the Castle Rock formation in the background.
The project was supported in part by a $15,000 grant from the Town of Castle Rock and included input from senior residents who shared memories of the town’s history. DCHP is also making improvements around the property, including xeriscaping and additional benches for residents and visitors.
The building will be renamed Rio at the Rock, a tribute to Castle Rock’s mining heritage. A public dedication ceremony is scheduled for June 24, 2026, at the mural site.
